The vehicle used to driver Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L for the two years prior to his petira is being offered for sale on the Yad2 website by the leasing company for 155,000 NIS. In the details under “technical information” on the vehicle it states it was the car used by the gadol hador. The vehicle in question is a 2012 Skoda Superb, with a book value that is considerably less than the sale price.
According to a Yisrael Hayom report, the price was received and the vehicle was already sold to its new owner. The report adds members of the rav’s family are furious over the abuse of the gadol hador’s name to turn a profit. “How can one do such a thing? What a disgrace. However, we have no control over this” family members are quoted as saying in response.

Are you going to tell me that if a chiloni wants to name his child Ovadia after Maran, even though he will not raise the child frum, that it would be an “abuse of the gadol’s name??? So what if it turned a profit for them???

Would the family have been furious, and would they have turned down the offer to profit if they owned the vehicle?
