Rami Ravid, the 41-year-old policeman who was stabbed in his back in a terrorist attack in Shomron on Monday 20 Teves 5774, is reported in moderate condition. He was admitted to an intensive care unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Chief of Trauma Medicine Dr. Ofir Marin reported the officer is not in life-threatening danger, but the knife did hit a number of blood vessels and organs. “The knife was extremely close to his heart and major blood vessels” the doctor added.
The policeman has undergone emergency surgery after arriving in the trauma unit of the hospital. He is now in a medically induced coma and connected to a respirator. Doctors on Tuesday morning 21 Teves signaled they plan to take him off the mechanical respirator in the very near future.
Three policemen were directing traffic following a minor collision in the area when an Arab male approached them and pulled out a 6 inch knife and stuck it into Rami’s back and fled. Another policeman fired at the suspect but he escaped.
While IDF soldiers spent hours in a manhunt for the attacker who fled the scene near Yishuv Adam, he still remains at large.
