Former Israeli Ambassador to Washington Dr. Michael Oren is turning to the United States to assist in combating the newly-announce academic boycott against Israel.
Oren is referring to the announced boycott by the American Studies Organization, which numbers fewer than 5,000 members, but perhaps Oren and others fear it may be an impetus to additional boycott efforts.
Oren rejects the legitimacy of the boycott, citing Israel is the lone democracy in the Middle East and the nation is known for its liberal universities. He writes that of the 193 nations in the world the organization chose Israel as the target of its boycott. As such, Oren feels Congress must act in response to the announced boycott to prevent this discriminatory policy against Israel.
