Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein announced on Wednesday 15 Teves 5774 that he has decided not to appeal the verdict in the fraud trial of Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
Lieberman was forced to step down as foreign minister in the last government and was only permitted to return to his senior cabinet post after he was acquitted.
Weinstein’s office released a statement that after studying the ruling the attorney general has decided to accept the position of the state prosecutor and the case will not be appealed.
The Ministry of Justice released a message that Lieberman’s actions nonetheless were not moral and not in line with that of a public official, yet alone a senior cabinet minister.
Lieberman’s attorney Yaakov Weinrott praised the decision.
