MK Eli Yishai is the chairmen of the Knesset Subcommittee on Homefront Preparedness and it is in that capacity that he turned to the CEO of Israel Electric Company seeking compensation for the recent power outages. Yishai feels the utility company must make good on the days tens of thousands of Israelis sat in the cold and dark as a result of interruptions in power due to a winter storm.
During a special subcommittee hearing addressing the snowstorm, Yishai turned to IEC CEO Eli Glickman, calling upon the utility to compensate subscribers for the power outages. “There were numerous failures resulting in power outages” stated Yishai, who added “Therefore I believe people affected by the blackouts should only have to pay 50% of their next bill.”
Glickman indicated he supports Yishai’s motion but pointed out the decision must be made by the nation’s Electricity Authority and no by the utility company.

Is he saying that a man-made company has to compensate people for an act of G-D ?
I love reading about Israeli MK’s railing against the government that did everything and anything they could to deal with a situation they had NO NEED to be prepared for. After all, how often does it snow in EY.
It never occurred to me to sue LIPA or AT&T, or any other service provider whose services were halted by superstorm sandy.
This sense of entitlement, that the government of Israel is responsible for EVERYTHING, that they have to take care of everyone is just beyond me. Since when did we abdicate our responsibility to take care of ourselves and our own?
The “Hand of G-D” is not the responsibility of the Israeli government. It is our own.
There were thousands of Israelis, Frum & not who took care of each other, who dug, brought food, generators, made housecalls, in essence did , what we are supposed to do – take care of ourselves and each other.
Let it be known that roofs that are not cleaned from snow accumulation WILL COLLAPSE…. or was the government responsible to clean and empty all roofs to prevent this financial mishap?
