Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio played nice, making up with a group that endorsed Bill Thompson in the Democratic mayoral primary, Capital New York’s Sally Gold reports.
According to outgoing City Councilman Lew Fidler, The mayor-elect showed up at county boss Frank Seddio’s soiree in his Canarsie law office, where dozens of district leaders were on hand with their spouses. Mr. de Blasio delivered a short speech, noting his own Brooklyn roots and spoke warmly of the stroller-strewn neighborhood during his drawn-out decision on whether to transplant his family into Gracie Mansion.
“It wasn’t just a quick – ‘hi, how you doing?’ He stayed; he talked to everybody,” said Mr. Fidler. “Canarsie’s not like exactly between Park Slope and downtown (Brooklyn) so it obviously was a really significant effort on his part and it was a real show of his desire to work with the elected leadership as opposed to at odds with it.”
Fidler said Mr. de Blasio spoke favorably of the hotel tax increase, which Mr. Fidler championed in the City Council. The council is slated to vote on reinstating the increase this week.

“Mayor-Elect Bill De blasio played nice”.
Mr. Kornbluh, this is the way you report on an event in which the new Mayor is mending fences? While I’m not a great fan of Mr. De blasio, I think that to report the story in this way, is somwhat childish and turns everything into a game. Running the City for the next 4 or 8 years is anything but a childish game.
