Lt. Achiya Klein was seriously wounded in a terrorist bomb attack near the Gaza border and doctors have been working to save his eyesight.
According to a Yediot Achronot report, the young officer was released from the hospital for Shabbos, permitting him to spend Shabbos Chanukah 5774 at home with family.
The 22-year-old officer was among five who were injured when they were preparing to detonate a smuggling tunnel connecting from Gaza to southern Israel.
Yediot reports Klein’s condition continues to improve and this shabbos leave was his second since being injured. He is being treated in the burn unit of Tel Hashomer Hospital and is undergoing numerous surgical procedures that doctors hope will save his sight.
Among his visitors this past week was Daniel Fahima, who lost his eyesight in the bus bomb attack in Burgos, Bulgaria.
