The eight member of the Jerusalem faction of Yahadut Hatorah met this week as the new city administration is working on settling in. The councilmen wanted to discuss new realities and plan the party’s strategy for the new administration. They discussed the needs of residents in frum areas as well as protecting the so-called ‘religious status quo’ pertaining to kedushas Shabbos and Yerushalayim.
The faction leaders explained that as the largest party in the city council, representing one-third of the city’s eligible voters and the majority of chareidi voters, it will remain firm on issues involving the religious status quo and participants expressed hope the mayor and other councilmen will be genuine in their commitment to preserve the kedusha of the holy city as they indicate in coalition negotiations.
