Honored as the Guest Speaker at the 44th Annual OHEL Dinner in Manhattan, Sunday evening, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo promised to fight injustice and discrimination at all levels.

Addressing recent reports of antisemitism and physical assaults on children and families at Pine Bush Schools in the Hudson Valley, Governor Cuomo declared that New York State will have zero tolerance on antisemitism.

“This State an a zero tolerance policy for antisemitism, period. It will not be tolerated anywhere, anytime, in any matter, shape of form,” the Governor declared to loud applause. “And it is up to each and everyone of us to remain vigilant and to fight for these principles.”

Prior to his speech, Mr. Cuomo was hailed by Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver as “the finest, most effective Governor in America today.”

“Andrew Cuomo is the kind of idealistic, innovative and results-oriented leader we need in Government today,” Mr. Silver said of the Democratic Governor, who’s running for reelection in 2014. “As his partner in Albany, I think he has accomplished more than anyone could have though possible. In a state that is incredibly diverse, Andrew Cuomo has proven himself to be a Governor for all seasons, for every challenge and for all New Yorkers.”

For his part, Governor Cuomo returned the love in an equal manner. “It has been my please to work with the speaker over the past three years since I’ve become Governor. He has been an extraordinary public servant and a champion for progressive government for many, many years,” Mr. Cuomo told the crowd. “Over these past three years, while we have seen governments gridlock around the country, we haven’t seen that in the State of New York. We are making government work, we balanced 3 budgets in a row, we are moving the State forward and we are making the state the progressive capital it was once again.”

Thats not a fair or accurate comment. Cuomo has never shown the slightest bit of antisemitism towards the orthodox community. He clearly holds several policy positions on gay marriage, etc. that conflict with our values but overall, he has been a great friend to yidden and strong supporter of EY.
