Another Knockout attack took place at around 3:00 this morning on a Jewish man walking home in the vicinity of 18th Avenue and East 2nd Street in Midwood. As in other similar local ‘knockout’ incidents in recent weeks targeting Jewish individuals of all ages, nothing was taken during this senseless attack.
The four were arrested by NYPD officers of the 66th precinct, with the assistance of the Boro Park Shomrim Patrol.
One of the perpetrators had 37 prior arrests, according to one of the Shomrim members.
Councilman David G. Greenfield is demanding that the NYPD and District Attorney charge all four suspects with felonies for participating in a gang assault and a hate crime.
“I am sickened to hear of yet another cowardly attack on an innocent person who was just trying to get home after work,” said Councilman Greenfield. “I applaud the efforts of the NYPD and Shomrim to increase their presence in Crown Heights and Midwood, and the NYPD’s great work in making an immediate arrest in last night’s anti-Semitic attack. It is now time for the NYPD and District Attorney to throw the book at these thugs and make it clear that our city will not tolerate this type of behavior, especially when people are being targeted because of their race or religion.”
Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) had the highest praise for Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Commander Michael Deddo of the 66 Precinct, and the community Shomrim following the swift arrests early this morning.
“I commend the excellent police work that we saw this morning,” said Assemblyman Hikind.“I am grateful that these four thugs are off the streets and am hopeful that they will be treated with the severity of the law. I urge continuing diligence in dealing with this issue.”
In an interview with Arutz 7, Crown Heights community Leader Rabbi Yaacov Behrman noted that in Crown Heights particularly easily identifiable religious Jews have been targeted. However, he noted that the “game” is being “played” throughout the US, and beyond simple anti-Semitism it bears testimony to a dangerously violent youth culture.
