Yesh Atid Inflexible Regarding Criminal Sanctions for Chareidim

lapidAs the Shaked Committee continues efforts to complete the new chareidi draft law by month’s end, Bayit Yehudi has shifted its position and is working to amend the law so one who fails to comply will face economic and not criminal sanctions. The Yesh Atid party members of the committee remain tenacious in their insistence that the law will and must contain criminal sanctions.

Committee member Bayit Yehudi MK Moti Yogev, a retired IDF colonel addressed Yesh Atid MKs. Yogev expressed his bewilderment with the position of Yesh Atid, explaining “The idea was to promote sharing the burden, bringing more chareidim into the military and workforce. Serving is a zechus in my mind and even a mitzvah that we all must fulfill. No one is patur.

“Together with that, limud Torah is the backbone of the Jewish People that has maintained us all these years. During recent years a welcome trend began in which more chareidim joined the IDF as well as studying for an academic degree.

“The effort by Yesh Atid MKs to introduce legislation that will be ineffective is discriminatory according to the former president of the Supreme Court, Justice Aaron Barak. I refer to efforts to advance ineffective legislation by taking advantage of legislative power, but this is unwise.

“The induction of chareidim is a complex social issue involving profound beliefs and opinions. The actions of Yesh Atid are a touchstone for Israeli society, the government and Knesset. Is the wisdom to know how to show flexibility regarding the drafting of chareidim or perhaps to remain tenacious towards breaking apart the coalition, the government and the Knesset?”

Yesh Atid’s Shimon Solomon added “With the induction of the chareidim into the IDF we become a better society in which everyone shares the responsibilities and enjoys the benefits together.”

Solomon feels “IDF service is an entry pass to Israeli society for the chareidim” pointing out that 90% of the chareidim who served in the IDF have integrated into the workforce.

  1. A bold dare. If he wins, he will “break” the haredi community, and if he loses the medinah will be seriously undermined. Something like a gambler saying “double or nothing”.

  2. To Shimon Solomon:
If everyone shares the responsibilities and enjoys the benefits together, as you say, how about sharing the responsibility and BURDEN of learning Torah which, as Moti Yogev said, “limud Torah is the backbone of the Jewish People that has maintained us all these years.”

But of course you and your leader Lapid-Haman is not interested in this but in making more Jewish Goyim. Don’t deny this because this is a fact. (Just a few weeks ago your evil henchmen grabbed a young charedi boy off the street in Jerusalem and cut his beard and peyot off.) You don’t need charedim in the army as there’s no room for them and you cannot afford it. That is why thousands of soldiers are being dismissed. Whom are you trying to fool, Mr. Solomon?

By the way you say “90% of the chareidim who served in the IDF have integrated into the workforce”. 90% of how many? 10? 15? Again, whom are you trying to fool with this statement, especially since most of these men are not accepted at chiloni workplaces?
We all know charedim in general never served, unless you’re referring to Daati Leumi or other kipa-wearing men, but they’re not charedim. Charedi leaders are brighter than that and cannot be fooled with your sweet talk. Go convince your illiterate Jewish shkatzim.

  3. #2 Out of curiosity, would the Charedi world be willing to serve in the IDF-all male unit- for just one month with the option of learning in the morning and evening? If not, one would argue that you are full of crap.
