President Shimon Peres recently celebrated his 90th birthday. The president will complete his term in office in the coming months, in July 2014.
Most believed that Peres would leave on a career high, after stepping down as the nation’s president. However it appears this is not so. When asked what is the next stop, Mr. Peres stated that he will make that decision when the time comes but one thing is for sure, “I am not about to retire if my health permits. I will continue contributing to the public sector.”
Political analysts view the statement as a trial balloon to determine if the president can find a prestigious spot back in the political community. Some feel that serving as president has significantly heightened Mr. Peres’ popularity and things being what they are today, Mr. Peres would be received with open arms by a number of Knesset parties.
