Israel: October 2013 Terrorism Summary


hamasThroughout October 2013, 136 terror attacks were recorded as opposed to 133 attacks in September.

The distribution of attacks was as such: Jerusalem – 32 as opposed to 25 in September; Yehuda & Shomron – 99 as opposed to 104 in September; and Gaza– five as opposed to four in September.

This month’s attacks recorded an Israeli citizen (October 10) who was stabbed to death in Brosh / Jordan Valley, and four casualties which included the wife of the stabbed man, another stabbing attack of a nine year old girl in Psagot near Ramallah (October 5), and a run-over attack against two soldiers near Bzaria / Shechem (October 5).

Another event worth mentioning was the injury of five IDF soldiers (October 31) who worked to demolish a terror tunnel leading from central Gaza into Israel. The tunnel contained an explosive device which took off injuring the soldiers.

Following is a regional distribution of attacks:

5 attack from Gaza (4 in September); 99 attacks in Yehuda & Shomron (104 in September); and 32 attacks in Jerusalem (25 in September).

Jerusalem and Yehuda & Shomron area: Most attacks executed in October (116 out of 131) were in the form of firebombs (September: 117 out of 129).

Distribution of attacks according to regions and pattern profile:

Following is a distribution of attacks in October 2013 according to regions:

Gaza– 5 attacks: 2 rocket launchings; 1mortar shell launchings; 2 small arms shootings.

Yehuda, Shomron and Jerusalem – 131 attacks: 10 IED; 2 stabbing; 2 run- over; 1 small arms shootings; 116 firebombs (28 in Jerusalem).

High-trajectory launchings from Gaza and Sinai: Throughout October 2013, 3 rockets and 2 mortar shells were launched towards Israel, in 3 attacks, as opposed to September: 8 rockets (in 3 attacks).
