[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota found some comfort campaigning in the Jewish neighborhood of Flushing, Queens, last night. At every Pizza shop or diner, Mr. Lhota was enthusiastically received and cheered, especially among teens. Kids were snapping pictures of him, yelling ‘here comes the mayor’ as he strolled down Main street.

Former congressman Bob Turner and Dr. Joseph Prager accompanied Mr. Lhota during his hour long campaign walk.

At one stop, Mr. Lhota was told by a group of high school girls that they studied and did a project about his candidacy in government classes. “This is interesting,” Mr. Lhota told reporters. “It is great to know that the teachers want to make current affairs instrumental about government and politics. It is very important. It is a great way if you want to teach about the structure of government, look at the most current campaign that is going on.”

“It will also get the students to read the papers, maybe even read blogs and tweets, so they can find out what’s really going on up to the minute,” Mr. Lhota quipped, pointing at this reporter (an active Tweeter).
