New York health officials say that about 100,000 individuals will have to change their health insurance under the federal health care overhaul.
According to the state Health Department, those changes are required where current insurance plans don’t comply with the terms of the Affordable Care Act.
The state has established an online exchange called NY State of Health, where officials say they can find plans that do comply.
Enrollment in those plans began Oct. 1 for coverage starting next year.
Health officials expect to enroll 1.1 million of New York’s approximately 2.7 million uninsured through the exchange.
A wave of cancellation notices have gone out nationally to small businesses and individuals who buy their own insurance, affecting about 5 percent of Americans who buy it on the private market.
