Runners in the New York City Marathon who make it to the finish line will celebrate amid tighter security than ever.
Mindful of the Boston Marathon bombing, the NYPD plans to post extra officers at the finish in Central Park on Sunday. A legion of other officers will keep watch by foot, by helicopter and by boat along the five-borough marathon route.
Police also will deploy 100 mobile cameras to bolster security and use bomb-sniffing dogs and plainclothes officers.
Organizers with the New York Road Runners encourage finish-line spectators to carry only one small bag per person. They say the bags also will be inspected at checkpoints at the entrances leading into Central Park.
Three people were killed and more than 260 injured in the Boston Marathon bombings April 15.
