New York City mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasio is maintaining a commanding lead in the polls over Republican rival Joe Lhota.
A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows de Blasio, a Democrat and the public advocate, is ahead of Lhota 65 percent to 26 percent.
The 39-point lead is down slightly from de Blasio’s 44-point advantage in Quinnipiac’s previous survey, which was released Oct. 21.
It is the first general election poll to have Lhota within 40 percentage points of de Blasio.
But with the election Tuesday, time is running out for Lhota, the former head of the region’s transit agency. The two men will meet Wednesday night for their third and final debate.
The new poll surveyed 728 likely voters has a margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.
