IDF Using Chareidi Soldiers as Induction Ambassadors

idffLast week, members of the Shaked Committee visited the Tel Nof base, permitting committee members to meet with soldiers serving in some of the chareidi programs in the military. The committee is headed by MK (Bayit Yehudi) Yael Shaked, and it is responsible to complete the work towards passing a new chareidi draft law in Knesset.

The actual event was closed to the press but the committee spokesperson released statements to the media following the day’s events. The spokesman explained how the IDF is using the soldiers serving in the special chareidi programs as ambassadors; to pass the good will to the inductees and have them persuade their friends that IDF service is a good idea.

At times, a number of chareidi soldiers are sent with their weapons and a jeep to chareidi areas to act as induction officers, to attract their friends and peers to join their example and opt for military service in one of the programs designed to accommodate chareidi soldiers.

  1. and then they wonder why they get attacked in meah shaarim.

coincidentally, who’s wise some that sees what is going to happen

  2. Since when does an army have to “recruit” conscripts? If they abolished conscription, then you “recruit” the way most western countries do. That they have to try to “sell” the army is an admission that they anticipate mass resistance.

  3. The IDF is good news for charadim. In it, they can learn a job skill and in doing so, meet secular Israelis who have never actually met a religious person; most seculars have warped knowledge of religious Jews that they pick up from the anti religious media.

I worked in the IDF and brought back more than a few neshamas and changed a few more to have respect for our Jewish heritage.

Those who fear that the avrach after learning in yeshiva for 20 years or so will become a chiloni are making a negative statement about the standard religious yeshiva and cheder education.

My sons and my sons in laws (not all) have been in the IDF and came out with good job skills and brought back to HaShem precious neshamos that were buried in the secular filth.

More than the IDF needs the charadim, the charadim need to enlist in the IDF.

  4. Baloney! Not even 1 charedi has been convinced that the G-dless IDF Shmad organization is a “good idea”.
The “charedim” who Shaked is referring to are some religious Zionists, quite different than the charedim they are trying to ensnare.

Instead of trying to go to charedi neighborhoods where they’re kicked out, they should go to Tel Aviv where thousands of non-charedim dodge the draft.

  5. AND why is this any different from enrollment to any organization?
Chesed, religious, national and educational organizations send Ambassadors to recruit new members. This is called “Marketing” or an “Open House” to meet members and supporters.
