Ken Thompson Slams Hynes Over Ad in Yiddish Newspapers

thompson12k-2-web[The following is a press release from Ken Thompson regarding an advertisement which can be found in Der Yid and in Der Blatt.]

BROOKLYN – In full-page ads currently running in Der Yid and in Der Blatt, the two major Satmar Yiddish weeklies, Republican Joe Hynes attributes his double-digit loss in the Democratic primary to “the minority element that seeks lawlessness.” It then goes on to say that, in the general election, the electorate “will use common sense and not vote for lawlessness.” Democrat Ken Thompson’s campaign called on Republican Joe Hynes to take down this disgusting ad immediately. Hynes previously called Thompson, who is African American, “thuggish” and last week compared him to a black gun dealer.33

Translated into English, the third bullet of the ad (attached) lists facts that “leaders and activists know” about Republican Joe Hynes, including “that his opponent [Ken Thompson] was only successful because a very small percent came out to vote and there he pulled in the minority element that seeks lawlessness.”
The next section goes on to say “leaders and activists know that in the next election when 60% of Brooklyn will come-out and vote, they will use common sense and not vote for lawlessness.””How low will Republican Joe Hynes go? First Hynes called his African American opponent ‘thuggish,’ now he is running ads that claim the only reason he lost the primary is because minorities were seeking ‘lawlessness’? While it’s clear that Republican Joe Hynes has no respect for the diverse voters of Brooklyn, if he had any integrity left, he would take down this disgusting ad immediately. Each day, Joe Hynes is proving why he lost the Democratic primary by a double-digit margin — he’s unfit to serve, and his disgraceful campaign continues to demean the dignity of the office he is about to exit,” said campaign spokesman James Freedland.

  1. The text of the Hynes ad, as reported here, is despicable and riddled with falsehood. DA Hynes did many good things in his years as DA, but this ad is a disgrace. The notion that Mr. Thompson’s supporters want lawlessness is unfounded nonsense at best. More likely, it is naked anti-black racism, which is the bastard stepchild of anti-Semitism.
