If Moshe Leon loses in the Yerushalayim mayoral race it will be due to the decision of the Belzer, Vishnitzer and Gerrer Rebbes Shlita according to many, for they decided not to instruct their chassidim to vote for Moshe Leon. The rebbes are permitting chassidim to vote their hearts. Many realize that without a command from their rebbes, many chassidim may simply opt not to bother voting.
In the last city election almost five years ago, Meir Porush was running against Nir Barkat and the latter one as a result of the Gerre boycott of Porush. It would appear the rebbes are willing to permit the non-frum incumbent remain in office rather than instruct chassidim to vote for Leon. Perhaps the rebbes are uncertain their support will result in a Leon victory, and prefer not to burn their bridges with City Hall.
Whatever the case, for Leon, his failed attempt to get the rebbes on board will most likely determine the outcome of the election for the frum vote is what he relies upon to unseat the incumbent.

I think in order to get official support you have to promise a seat in the city council or so…
