President Barack Obama says the government shutdown “inflicted unnecessary damage” to the U.S. economy and damaged America’s credibility around the world.
Obama spoke from the White House hours after signing legislation to reopen the government following 16 days of a partial shutdown.
The deal came the night before the nation’s debt limit was facing a breach.
Obama said while “these twin threats to our economy have now been lifted,” the shutdown slowed economic growth.
Obama says the way that business is done in Washington has to change.

Obamacare hasn’t? Higher taxes and debt haven’t? Disability and food stamps at record levels haven’t? Barry O needs a new line to come up with.
Hardly. At worse it moved some consumer spending from the first half of October to the last half of October – which is why the stocks went up.
The debt crisis is worse since the Tea Party lost, meaning the irresponsible fiscal and monetary policies (spending money you don’t have and printing money to cover the deficit – the equivalanet of maxing out the credit card and then spending more) continue – which is why the dollar is down versus foreign currencies and versus gold.
Cuz barry’s always worried about the US economy. That’s why he gave us obamacare.
“Obama says the way that business is done in Washington has to change”.
100% correct! Mr. Obama has to go and all will go well.
He’s right. I do business in the Mid-Atlantic (where the federal government is the biggest employer) and I feel like spraying my customers with Prozac, they’re so depressed over the lost business.
The US is in a major financial mess and I have no idea how they can get out of it. If it was up too me – I would fire half of the people working in the Government.
