The 18 Cheshvan 5774 municipal elections are approaching and in some cities, tempers are flaring. The latest case of election-related vandalism was reported in Netivot, in the southern area of the country.
HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita has directed residents to vote for candidate Eyal Mesika, explaining preference should be given to the shomer Shabbos candidate.
Early Wednesday morning, 12 Cheshvan, the tires of vehicles belonging to roshei kollelim and others who are openly supporting Mesika’s candidacy were found slashed.
Campaign officials representing bnei Torah responded, releasing a statement “We are acting in compliance with instructions from gedolei yisrael shlita and therefore, such actions will not deter us from continuing to support Eyal Mesika in his bid to become the city’s next mayor.
Mesika is supported by Ashkenazi and Sephardi rabbonim alike, including HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita, Rosh Yeshivat Kisei Rachamim and many others.

Present mayor Yehel Zohar is an excellent mayor and has done much for Netivot. He turned the city into a major busy, prosperous city from a small development community.
Being shomer Shabbat is not enough of a reason to vote for a candidate, especially one who is affiliated with a political party that is ready to divide Jerusalem, give away our precious land to the arabs, have bus transportation and stores open on Shabbat.
He would never be my choice.
