Satmar Rebbe – Rav Zalman Leib Shlita Distributes Millions to Mosdos in Eretz Yisrael

satSatmar made good on its promise to assist mosdos that do not accept state funding and the Rebbe Shlita from Williamsburg attended a dinner and did just that, handed out the dollars.

Following his visit to Eretz HaKodesh last Shevat, the Satmar Rebbe Shlita of Williamsburg announced he was undertaking to assist mosdos that shun accepting state funding. The rebbe came back and did just that. It is reported he allocated millions of dollars to hundreds of mosdos that have undertaken to turn their backs on funding from the Zionist government.

The rebbe calls it the Shekel Tahor program, signaling a willingness to continue assisting mosdos Torah that understand one mustn’t accept the “dirty Zionist money”.

  1. Tizku L’Mitzvos.

May the Rebbe be zoche to distribute tzedakah many more times with many times more money.

And may the mosdos that refuse Israeli government funding be matzliach in continuing to teach Torah true hashkafa without the interference of the zionist government.

  2. While this may be newsworthy, this isn’t really “news” in that it is what they have always done. Its not like this is something they just started now.

Part of the Israeli’s problem in understanding yeshivos, is that they always assumed they were primarily be financed by Israeli tax revenues, rather than private funds, and tgherefore assumed they by gotting off government funds, all the yeshivos would close and the talmidim would happily march off to the army.

  3. Lots of people may have beef with satmar but they put their money where there mouth is unlike a lot of other factions that take “dirty zionist money” while wishing for downfall of the zionist regime.

  4. I honestly don’t know if this is a good thing at all. The Satmar Rebbe is supporting schools that kids are being stripped from receiving a basic education. They don’t even teach them math. These kids are taught to think that Hashem ONLY wants us to learn Torah and NOT to be involved in society or science. They look at science as bad, BUT will take full advantage of medicine when needed.
Do people honestly think this is what Hashem wants?

  5. While the rebbe’s gestures are commendable, it seems kinda of a bracha levatala type of assistance. It said he gave millions (atleast 2,000,000) to hundreds (atleast 200) mosdos, that’s a average of 20,000 dollars a yeshiva.

Satmar is not a govenment, they are a private fund with limited money. While the gesture is wonderful, how much can 20,000 do to help a dieing and desperate mosdos.

Unless, through this gesture we wants to inspire others to give.

I don’t know, I just hope all these millions are not a waste.

  6. do they pay when they go see a doctor in Israel or go to the hospital if they don’t then they do tale plenty form the zionist

  7. So now the $$ that is raised in Bklyn fundraising goes to Mosdos in Israel, not a bad deal.

Can they spare some nickels for the Rebbes and Mechanchos of non-Zionistic New York yeshivos and beis yakovs that are behind in salary PLEASE???

  8. to peakman.- a lot of people refuse to accept the kupat cholim and pay for medical bills from their own pocket or from US tzedakah – i know one yid in Manhattan who spends most of his time raising money for such yidden in yerushalayim

  9. Akuperma and HoRov: What’s new here is that Satmar is offering money to schools that haven’t received from them until now in exchange for a commitment to stop taking from the Zionists, and a lot of schools are showing interest, since anyway they’re losing a lot if not most of their funding.
TrueTorah: Satmar students learn enough basic skills that when they do have to go out and earn a living they can pick up whatever else they need very quickly, especially since their motivation and their basic learning skills are far higher than the average Israeli’s.
peakman: Taking medical services is very different than giving the Zionist mind control mechanisms any foothold into the school curriculum.
TrueTalk: I don’t know all the figures, but it seems like a significant number of schools are taking an interest, and they (and their accountants) know what’s in their best interests.
