Far Rockaway, Queens- Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder announced that over $2 million was awarded to multiple organizations in Far Rockaway and Bayswater to help continue Sandy relief and recovery efforts.
“In the immediate aftermath of Sandy it was our local chesed organization that provided the relief and services that our families desperately needed,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “They distributed food, supplies and financial support to every resident that was devastated by the storm without asking any questions or worrying about their own organizations stability.”
The federal Superstorm Sandy Social Services Block Grant is designed to cover unreimbursed expenses resulting from Sandy, including social, health and mental health services for individuals, and for repair, renovation and rebuilding of health care facilities, mental hygiene facilities, child care facilities and other social services facilities.
“Almost a year after Sandy and many of our families and institutions are still struggling to survive,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “This new funding is only the beginning and will go a long way to help our local mosdos continue their great work assisting our families recover.”
Funding was provided by the federal government and administered by New York Sate. Grantees were selected through a competitive and transparent request for proposals and there may be additional awards based on availability of funds, Goldfeder added.
“I will continue to work until every family is safe and secure back in their own home and our community is built back stronger than ever,” said Goldfeder.
