The weekend election polls show that in the Jerusalem race the incumbent, Mayor Nir Barkat will emerge the successor against Moshe Leon. Elections will take place on18 Cheshvan 5774. In the Beit Shemesh race, the Shas-affiliated incumbent Mayor Moshe Abutbul maintains a lead against Eli Cohen, who is viewed as his main opponent in that mayoral race.
The Maariv poll conducted with Magar Mochot shows Barkat leading by 30% against Leon, with the latter being the chareidi candidate. 43% of respondents said they will vote for Barkat while only 13% said they will vote for Leon. Other polls show Barkat at 65% and Leon with 35% of the vote.
The veteran Beit Shemesh local Keren Ohr released the results of its poll. While Keren Ohr is not a supporter of Abutbul, it shows him emerging the successor in that city. The poll, which was conducted by Mutagim, shows Abutbul closing in on 50% of the vote while Likud candidate Eli Cohen only receives 35%.
7.8% of the respondents in the Beit Shemesh race remain undecided.
