Crazy Carl Eyeing Comeback As Gubernatorial Election Candidate

New Yorkers might once again get a taste from ‘Crazy Carl‘ – Paladino, as he considers another run for public office, this time as Conservative candidate for Governor in 2014, Capital New York reports.

“I think there’s a lot of stuff that both parties have to sort out before I seriously consider anything,” Paladino told told Jimmy Vielkind, a new Albany hire for Capital New York, after traveling to New York City for a Conservative Party reception featuring Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. “At this point, I think everybody’s just focused on this current election. Maybe shortly after that there will be some focus put on the type of person we would want. Let’s see who’s making a move to upset the apple cart after Election Day.”

Mike Long, the chairman of the Conservative Party, said he spoke to Paladino at the event, but the interaction was perfunctory. They agreed to speak in greater depth, but Long said he was “positive” that Paladino could capture its line.

“It wasn’t a chat about the governor’s race,” Long said. “It was just, we haven’t caught up in a while, we need to talk about what you’re doing, what you’re thinking. He said, ‘Yeah, we’ll talk.’ There’s no one else running. He’s made his voice clear, too: he’s said that if there is not an acceptable Republican candidate running for governor to give Andrew Cuomo a run, that he would seek the Conservative Party endorsement.”

So far, the only Republican candidate who has publicly said to be exploring a run is Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, as is Ed Cox, the party’s chairman, rumored to eye a run.

In an interview with YWN, Mr. Cox said there are a few candidates on the table, but declined to name them or discuss the race.

  1. Running for office is fun. But supporting a winner would be a lot more fun. Running to make an ideological point is okay, but not if it results in electing opponents from the opposite ideological extreme.
