“Parasites” and “you live on our expense” were part of the hostile diatribe from a member of a Magen David Adom ambulance team that was transporting the wife of a Beit Shemesh avreich to a hospital to deliver her baby. The avreich was present and an equal recipient of the hateful assault.
Ladaat reports that the avreich, “D” explains how he tried to respectfully explain to the driver of the ambulance that limud Torah is not nonsense or a waste of time, in addition to explaining how chareidim pay taxes like other citizens of the country. He explains his words did not penetrate as the driver continued with his monologue, blaming the chareidim for living at the expense of those like himself who work for a living.
At some point another member of the EMS crew silenced the driver has he tried recording the details of the case for the call sheet report. D reports he filed a complaint with Magen David Adom, but he did not receive a response from the EMS organization.
Ladaat turned to MDA spokesman Zaki Heller, who explained he is not familiar with the incident, which he will attempt to probe. More information and a MDA response to follow is one is available.

He was trying to explain to a secular, that learning Torah the whole day is important.
It’s like someone trying to convince me, of the importance of reading the whole Koran out loud three times a day, instead of going to work and paying taxes on the income.
Why was he answering him at all? He should have asked him to respect their privacy and do his job quietly.
Other than at a funeral, I can’t think of a more inappropriate venue to conduct this type of attack. That driver should be canned.

Jew Yorker, he should be canned? I think he deserves a second chance. “Canning” somebody in a tough economy caused by extreme right wing tinkering with the financial system is no answer. Lets be understanding. I think 6-12 months of sensitivity training would be appropriate.

Someone verbally assaulting a woman in labor obviously has issues as was pointed out by New Yorker being a most inopportune time to harangue someone. Though I appreciate your being “dan likaf zechus” I just hope you do the same for your frum brethren too.

jew yorker – I agree with you fully! MDA is a field that works in Life and Death situations. A person like that can threaten the success of savings someones life. There is no room what-so-ever to mix politics with work in such fields! He MUST be canned! As far as his family, he should have thought about that BEFORE making such bad decisions! If, for example, a person tells off his boss, no one would say, “don’t fire him because he has a family to support”! Tell off the boss, GET FIRED! Make bigoted/chauvinistic/or racial statements to the customers, YOUR FIRED!!!! This was a case of Racial statements!

canned is right. Cus the people that are gonna train him for ethics would think on the same lines. I walked into a store in Talpiot this week and in the most respectful tone and demeanor asked if he sells something I needed. Before I finished my question he looked me up and down and said no. So I decided to take a walk through the store to see what they sell. And suddenly there I see it! So I went back and told him I see it there so he tells me that they only had a few left “sheariot”. So he says: isn’t there a worker there? can’t you speak with her? So I said: I came back to you cus you didn’t even give me a chance. I thanked him for the “pleasant service” and left. But I must admit it took me a few minutes to talk the hurt out of myself. When I see this kind of behavior I begin understanding how some yidden were able to turn into kappos. Cus only prewar europe or post war hungary with the communists did yidden get such treatment.
