A young Ashdod man was taken into custody on Tuesday, 27 Tishrei 5774 for allegedly abusing the Magen David Adom dispatcher over a three month period. He is blamed for tying up the dispatch center on occasion. A check showed the young man phoned the emergency dispatcher no less than 5,170 during a three month period.

“He would call and speak rudely, often cursing; and the situation quickly got out of hand as he would call 200 times on some days” a MDA official is quoted by Walla News as saying.

Police add that on occasion, the young man caused the dispatch center to crash and his actions prevented residents with true emergencies to reach a MDA dispatcher. Police add calls to the MDA dispatcher were made from cellular telephones, house phones, office phones, computer lines “and any possible device capable of calling”.

Police conclude the suspect has remained silent since his arrest and the motive for his call abuse remains a mystery at this time.
