NYC Announces Wi-Fi, Broadband Initiatives


wifiNew York City is announcing initiatives to expand wireless and broadband connectivity.

The plans include free public Wi-Fi in 10 commercial districts in all five boroughs, starting in December.

The city also announced the launch Monday of WiredNYC. That program is designed to encourage and accelerate the deployment of broadband technologies for office buildings.

The CEO of Kushner Companies, Jared Kushner, is operating WiredNYC on behalf of the city.

Ten of the city’s largest real estate owners are participating. The city says more than 150 buildings are signed up for the program.
