It would appear that for Israel Police commandos, Yitzhar resident Boaz Albert is atop of the nation’s most wanted list.
The last incident between an Israel Police Yassam strike force and Albert began on Tuesday, 20 Tishrei 5774 at 16:00. Police arrived at Givat Tekuma as Albert was hosting Yomtov guests, supporters who wanted to give him a chizuk.
A recent arrest of Albert from his home gained national media attention for the abuse of tasers by police, leading to a probe of the officers involved. The policeman who shocked Albert no less than 24 times was indicted for his actions.
On chol hamoed, police found Boaz chained himself to the area and before they knew what was happening, dozens of area residents and visitors responded in support of Albert to prevent police from arresting him.
Police remained determined and waited for reinforcement, telling the media Albert was violating an administrative order prohibiting from being home. Yitzhar residents began calling for support as well and a standoff was taking place for hours. Police vehicles were damaged and tires were slashed during the ongoing standoff.
At this hour, 20:30 Tuesday night the standoff is ongoing in Yitzhar.
