On Monday night chol hamoed, thousands of people gathered by the Mir Yeshiva in Yerushalayim to not only participate in the annual simchas beis hashoeva but also to partake in the gala celebration marking the first Hachnosas Sefer Torah to the yeshiva leilui nishmas HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel ZT”L.
Last year, following the shloshim of HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel ZT”L, Mir Yeshiva alumni R’ Baruch Jeremias of Lakewood decided to honor the memory of his Rosh HaYeshiva by writing a Sefer Torah leilui nishmaso (as reported HERE on YWN) Now, a year later, the final letters were written on erev yom tov in the Rosh HaYeshiva ZT”L’s house together with the current Rosh HaYeshiva HaRav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, Shlita.
Song and dance filled the streets of Yerushlayim as bachurim, avreichim, and guests accompanied the new Sefer Torah from the Rosh HaYeshiva’s sukkah to the main bais medrash of the yeshiva, accompanied by the voices of Shlomo Cohen and Yanky Daskal with the Yedidim Israel Choir and Ami Cohen band. Following the dancing, the olam made their way down to the yeshiva sukkah, where they heard divrei chizuk from the hanhala of the yeshiva and R’ Baruch as well as from HaRav Shmuel Auerbach, Shlita. The evening continued with a festive simchas beis hashoeva that lasted until the wee hours of the morning.
