After a district court ruled in favor of Bayit Yehudi party leader Naftali Bennett’s list for the Jerusalem municipality race, some 60 members of the party’s Jerusalem branch announced they are breaking off and plan to run a competing dati leumi list in the local election.
Bennett emerged successful from court and his candidate, Dov Kalmanovich will head the Bayit Yehudi slate in the Jerusalem race. While he may have won the battle the party may lose the war as the local branch is unwilling to accept Bennett’s list and has decided to go it alone, competing for votes within the dati leumi community.
The two hundred member local branch met and sixty of them announced they are breaking away and returning to the National Religious Party, planning to run their own ticket in the Jerusalem race.
If Bayit Yehudi’s Deputy Mayor David Hadari decides to move to the rebel faction, it is very possible that he will take the Bayit Yehudi name with him, a move that will add to voter confusion and Bennett’s frustration.

This is what happebs to movements that do not follow daas torah and instead follow their own warped idea of yiddishkeit. Just like all other so called “factions of yiddishkeit” they break apart and eventually fade away and all that remains are the true torah yidden
If two parties can split, with both parties passing the threshold, it is to their advantage to split. Proportional representation doesn’t reward unity – as long as your faction is big enough to get the minimum.
sincerely123; yours is the most asinine comment made in recent weeks. Last time I looked, there is shas, degel hatorah, agudas ysroel and a myriad fights about seats and mayoral candidates…amongst “chareidim”! Yes, those who are supposed to follow daas torah…..
Interestingly, the ‘break off’ NRP has placed one of harav Ovadia’s grandchildren on its ticket.
#1- I can only assume that you are referring to the myriad ‘break off’ charedi parties running in the municipal elections this year. Don’t be so hard on them.
1, like UTJ?
#1 sincerely,
Have you noticed how many charedi factions exist? Are they not run by true torah yidden?
UTJ is ONE PARTY consisting of various interest groups such as Agudah and Degel. But UTJ is an actual display of ACHDUS and UNITY as various differing groups come together and UNITE together into one political entity.
That’s the difference between UTJ unity and the above Bayit Yehudi SPLIT.
