Satmar Rebbe Shlita Promises $15 Million for Mosdos in Eretz Yisrael

satThe Satmar Rebbe of Williamsburg Shlita has contacted Eida Chareidis Gavaad HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss Shlita to inform him that money is on the way for mosdos in need. The report states that in light of the ongoing campaign by the government to cut funding for chareidi mosdos, $15 million was raised at a recent Satmar dinner and the funds are heading to Eretz Yisrael for the start of the winter zman in Cheshvan. Satmar in NY and the Eida Chareidis in Eretz Yisrael are working hand in hand to address the issues of funding for mosdos.

The rebbe is quoted telling the gavaad that they will continue with their life and will not permit the Zionist government to interfere with the education of the children in line with the derech of the rabbonim shlita.

  1. 1) I thought Satmar doesn’t take money from Israel.
    2) Where are they going to get the money from? I doubt the Rebbe is going to sell his menorah for this.

  2. Baruch Hashem. It is very heartwarming to hear that Yidden have donated so much money to Acehinu Bnei Yisroel in Eretz Yisroel in order to help alleviate their sufferings at the hands of the shmad government there.

  3. With Hatzlacha Rabba.

Any way that Satmar can raise some pennies for the Mosdos in NEWYORK who are not Tzioni and need to pay their Rabbaiim and Moros before Yom Tov…. or is this just another Satmar/Israel media rap!!!!

  4. Since the Eida Chareidis (the recipient of the money) hadn’t been “hooked” on zionist money, they wouldn’t be seriously affected by being cut-off. However, the current Israeli policies are turning many people who were generally pro-zionist into anti-zionists, so that will increase the burden on the Eida Chareidis, and also be an opportunity for them to grow significantly.

  5. Satmar is giving money to non-Satmar and non-Eida yeshivos who did get government money that is now being cut.

Satmar has always supported ALL yiddishe mosdos and aniyim in need, including non-Satmar, non-Chasidim, etc.

Satmar is world renown for many decades for their worldwide tzedaka, chesed, bikur cholim, hachnosos orchim and many other mitzvos.

  6. The Williamsburg Rebbe has a personal vested interest in the Satmar families of Eretz Yisroel.

Prior to becoming Rebbe he was Satmar Rav in Yerushalayim and he witnessed the dire needs that the Satmar people there have. This became to him one of his greatest priorities upon returning to the US. There he had dealt with families who, not only could not pay tuition, but could not pay for the basics i.e. food, clothing, rent….

Before attending his grandson’s wedding in EY last year the Rebbe had meeting after meeting in people’s homes to raise millions to distribute to those moisdos that don’t take government funding.

At that same time, the Rebbetzin herself raised thousands of dollars to give to the women who came to her begging for help.

In all the years that he is Rebbe, (although involved in so many other causes) he has still retained this as his number one mission.

  7. To #1: Shame on you!!! What a crude post-Yom Kippur remark!

There are many things that you can take issue with, but one fact is indisputable, and that is the extent of Satmar CHESED!

I have no doubt that you or your family have certainly benefited from this at some point.

    BITE YOUR TONGUE!

  8. Being that they convinced many frum not to vote and cost the Agudah movement at least two seats one of which probably went to lapid the least they could do is give 15 million dollars.

  9. While not a big Satmar groupie, I think its unfair to assume that the rebbe “has a vested interest” in Satmar mosdos in EY and I don’t think he will personally profit from any of these donations. Satmar are among the biggest ba’alei tzadakah including donations to those who follow other chassidus and even some misnagdim. Give them credit and hope that Zalman and Aron someday learn to act like grownups.

  10. #10…. Satmar convinced OTHERS not to vote and influenced the outcome?!? WOW!!!

That’s a new one! In Eretz Yisroel they are more powerful than Agudah? Than Ger? Than Belz? Than Viznitz??

The Satmarer Rebbe zt”l foresaw exactly the predicament facing the chareidim today in E”Y. We are not beholden to the government for anything!!

We provide for ourselves!! Now you do the same and stop blaming Satmar for the fiasco we are dealing with over there.

  11. $15,000,000 is a nice sum but it is barely a drop in the sea of the financial support that Israelis and the Israeli government have given, and still give, to charedi mosdot.

  12. Gadolhadorah: Why should R. Zalman and R. Aron “act like grownups.” Satmar is too big to be a hasidic community. Hasidim traditionally were small enough in number so that the “rebbe” personally knew each and every Hasid. The community should split, as this is normal for Hasidic communities that get so large that the “rebbe” become a distance and remote leader.

  13. #11 – When I wrote “vested” interest I did not imply that it was for the Rebbe’s own personal gain. He took on this cause as HIS ‘achrayus’ and the beneficiaries are those families that he tended to while living in Yerushalayim.

  14. Not to be cynical. But first Satmar in America takes millions in welfare programs , then they give 15 million to EY. That’s big of them!!

Why don’t they first help all the “poor, destitute” families in America, before doing this

  15. Why can we dan L’kaf zechus!!!

Him and his supporters are doing a wonderful thing, 15 million, thats a lot of money. Lets learn from them instead of knocking them

  16. chaya.esther.amhaartz #17: Satmar DOES distribute tens of millions of dollars a year, each and every year, in AMERICA to the AMERICAN POOR YIDDEN.

Kol Hakovod to Satmar. We should all emulate them.
