PARTY AFFILIATION: Democrat

MOST RECENT OCCUPATON: currently the New York City public advocate, a watchdog role

PREVIOUSLY SERVED: as city councilman representing sections of Brooklyn. Before that, campaign manager of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s U.S. Senate bid, regional director for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and aide to former New York City mayor David Dinkins.

KEY POLICY PROPOSALS: raising taxes on richest city residents to fund universal pre-kindergarten, reforming NYPD stop-and-frisk tactics, creating more affordable housing for working and middle-class residents.

PERSONAL: Married to Chirlane McCray, Democratic party activist. One daughter, Chiara de Blasio, and one son, Dante de Blasio.

CANDIDATE: Joe Lhota

AGE: 58

PARTY AFFILIATION: Republican

MOST RECENT OCCUPATON: chairman of Metropolitan Transportation Authority; resigned in December.

PREVIOUSLY SERVED: as executive vice president of Madison Square Garden. Before that, president of telecommunications company Lightpath, executive vice president of Cablevision and as deputy mayor and budget director for former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

KEY POLICY PROPOSALS: wants to reduce taxes except the commuter tax, which he wants to reinstate, and shrink the size of government. Defends the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policy, advocates reforming the City Council’s discretionary fund.

PERSONAL: Married to Tamra Lhota, Republican party fundraiser. One daughter, Kathryn.

  1. This is a really tough call for nyers. On one hand u got a successful guy who ran the mta and was an executive at msg. On the other hand u got a community organizer under dinkins who gave ny 8 yrs of hillary rotten clinton. Sounds like a coin toss to me.
