Despite his candidate of choice’ expected loss in the Democratic mayoral primary, Assemblyman Dov Hikind said Friday he would back Bill Thompson as long as he stays in the mayoral race.
Speaking to the Jewish Week, Mr. Hikind said that in a matchup of Bill de Blasio, the likely nominee, verus the Republican nominee, Joseph Lhota, he was “leaning toward” de Blasio, who represented a neighboring Council district for eight years ending in 2009.
Lhota may be a natural fit for the conservative voters of Borogh Park who largely oppose tax hikes and favor tough police policies, but Hikind said “Bill is a very good friend. We will have some very serious conversations.”
In a recent video interview with videographer Shimon Gifter, Mr. Hikind was more clear about his absolute support for Bill de Blasio in event of Thompson’s loss.
“For me, Lhota is out of the question, and not because he is a Republican, trust me,” Mr. Hikind said.
Hikind had an adversarial relationship with Lhota’s ex-boss, Rudy Giuliani, whose Department of Investigaton brought charges of corruption against Hikind that were later rejected by a state jury.

A loser backing a loser. The Yiddeshe tzibur should get behind DeBlasio to assure that we don’t elect another Bloomberg (or in this case a Bloomberg crony) as mayor. De Blasio has put forward a progressive agenda for New York that will help reverse some of the income disparities in New York that have reached all time records under Republican leadership.
This will be like the turner for congress run – regardless who they endorse – 80% of the frum will vote for Lohta – If hes decent, he can will I think – Deblasio too left for alot of people
Mr. Gadolhadorah, you are misinformed about basic economics and taxation plus you have chutzpah denigrating one of the most dedicated jewish politicians in history. I know for a fact that Dov Hikind has stood up and rectified judgements from anti semitic judges and cops. This was done without fanfare. What have you done in your life that makes you such a “winner” over this “loser”? You are such a bitter imfarginner of successful people that you just want the government to steal – yes steal (the current max tax rt. in NYC is 53%!) and “appropriate” to the poor. This will only cause more diversion of income out of the city and / or hurt worthy mosdos’ ability to raise funds. In addition, this will also prevent job creation which is the true and Erlich income equalizer. There many rags to riches stories in the city. Notwithstanding, go ahead and vote DeBlasio. Good luck and a Gmar tov!
