Tov Party Decides to Make a Go For it in Jerusalem Race

jerThe Tov party, also known as the “new chareidim” has entered the Jerusalem municipal election race, announcing its desire to gain entry onto Jerusalem decision-making team.

YWN-ISRAEL spoke with Tov leader Chanoch Werdiger on Tuesday, 6 Tishrei 5774, and the party leader expressed optimism over earning slots on the city council. When asked who the party would back in the mayoral race, Werdiger explained he will go with the incumbent, Nir Barkat, not his opponent Moshe Leon, with the latter viewed by most as the official or unofficial chareidi candidate. Tov is also running in the Elad and Betar Illit municipal races.

For Werdiger, he understands that Yerushalayim is too big for Tov not to play a role, and he feels his party offers chareidi voters in the capital an alternative other than Shas and Yahadut Hatorah. Werdiger admits that his list is yet to be finalized, but he will be at head that list in the Jerusalem race with a hope of gaining a place in the next Jerusalem City Hall coalition government. Elections are about 40 days from now.

  1. These people who are anti-gedolim and the Torah Community, organized as the Tov Party, have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning in Yerushalayim.

  2. well maybe it could be good. the old ‘charadi parties’ are in for their personal gain and support their buddies to the exclusion of the rest of us ‘simple’ non aligned charadi people who believe in G-d and His Torah.

  3. #4: Clearly real Chareidim don’t agree with you as they keep voting for and electing UTJ to represent them in increasing numbers. UTJ gained a 7th seat in the Kenneset in the recent election and has gained votes over the last election in Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak and other municipalities.

  4. #5 “Clearly real Chareidim don’t agree with you as they keep voting for and electing UTJ to represent them in increasing numbers”.

Real Charedim are whom exactly? Who wears the emblem of “Real Charedim”? The Tov party did not run for election this past Knesset so OF COURSE they did not venture any votes. In Bet Shemesh they are growing in size and have seats on the city council. Tov has a following in Har Nof, Bayit Vegan, Katamon, Ramat Eshkol and other areas but then again, maybe that is not the “Real Charedim” venues!!!!

  5. #6: The increasing number of UTJ voters. An electoral base that has been increasing.

In Beit Shemesh they only have on seat on the council (not “seats” as you state) and they have little influence there. And they have no representation elsewhere. They are a one-trick pony that normative Chareidim pay no attention to.
