The New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association says it and other police unions will seek to stop a federal monitor from overseeing the NYPD.

The PBA, the police department’s largest union, said Wednesday night it will file the motion in Manhattan federal court on behalf of the city’s four police unions.

If granted, it says it will allow the unions to have an active role in the process to appeal a federal judge’s decision in the stop-and-frisk case.

A judge last month ruled that the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk practice violated minorities’ civil rights and ordered a monitor to oversee changes.

PBA President Patrick Lynch says a federal monitor could directly impact the safety, day-to-day responsibilities and collective bargaining of the unions it represents.
