In a publicized message directed to leaders of the dati leumi Bayit Yehudi party, Rabbi Zalman Baruch Melamed, Rosh Yeshivat Beit El explains “I was naïve in my belief that Yesh Atid was genuine in its call for sharing the burden. But what has occurred in actuality is a serious blow to the budget of yeshivos with the new draft law, including Zionist yeshivot.”
In the letter advertised by Arutz-7, the rav writes “They duped us. They defrauded us. Therefore, we must say to the ministers and MKs in Bayit Yehudi until here! We will not be a partner in the destruction of Torah! This is a call to war against those who seek to destroy Torah!”
Rav Melamed in his letter turns to Minister of Education (Yesh Atid) Rabbi Shai Piron stating “We are certain you did not intend to join a party that would harm yeshivos including Zionist yeshivos. You came to unite and not to cause a split. You did not come to promote hate between religious and non-religious. Your may not be a part of such a process.”

Say it like it is, is a valued goal.
Beruchim haboim. Its about time they woke up. The gedoliom have stated exactly this right from the beginning. Before they signed up with these reshoyim.
It takes MO months to see and understand what Charedi Gedolim have warned about many months earlier.
Rabbi Melamed, why don’t you try to get rid of the head of your party who’s responsible for partnering in the destruction of Torah?
how foolish is this person to have not learned from history did he really think the result would b any different
al cheit….. a little to late….
Let this be a lesson to all dati leumiers: when you lie down with dogs you will wake up with fleas.
They allied with a party whose platform was to surpress Torah and who made clear in advance that he saw orthodox Jews as a problem in need of a drastic solution. And unlike many Israeli politicians, Lapipd kept his promises.
“Duped” is inappropriate. Lapid was 100% honest, and Bayit Yehudi was attracted by the anti-hareidi part, but they forgot they they too are Jews.
“Bayit Yehudi was attracted by the anti-hareidi part, but they forgot they they too are Jews”. Let us not forget that neither SHAS or UTJ was interested in bonding with BY for coalition purposes. You sleep & suffer with dogs when you say NO, NO over and over again!!!
BY was attracted by limitations of social service spending and a free ride without National Responsibilities that Yesh Atid was supporting.
When UTJ voters find out that their leadership will throw them out of homes in Betar, Givat Zev, Ramat Shlomo for a few shekels for yeshivos …..who will then be the NAIVE ones??
