Council Members David G. Greenfield and Mathieu Eugene recently visited Yeshiva Torah Vodaath in Kensington to meet with the administration of its elementary, high school and beis medrash and discuss their concerns and issues regarding city government. As a result of the once-a-decade redistricting process, Torah Vodaath and much of Kensington will now be part of Council Member Eugene’s district. Council Member Eugene, who has a very close relationship with the Orthodox Jewish community, asked Councilman Greenfield for an introduction to the Yeshiva so he could get a head start on addressing all their governmental needs.
During last week’s visit to the East 9th Street yeshiva, the Council Members were treated to a tour of the school and heard directly from the administration, board members, staff and students about issues and topics including Council Member Greenfield and Eugene’s proposed legislation to provide yeshivas with school safety officers, yeshiva funding and tuition assistance, transportation and busing and the need for improved city services like trash collection.
“It’s always a pleasure to go back and visit Yeshiva Torah Vodaath. I especially want to thank Rabbi Yitzchok Gottdiener and Principal Isaac Fink for the tour. I am committed to working with their new Council Member Mathieu Eugene to ensure that all of the yeshiva’s needs are met. I know that the Kensington community is in great hands with Council Member Eugene. I look forward to working with him in the coming years as we fight together on behalf of the entire community,” said Council Member Greenfield.
“I enjoyed visiting Yeshiva Torah Vodaath, one of the premier yeshivas in the Orthodox Jewish community, and discussing their concerns and needs. I look forward to representing a larger portion of Kensington as a result of the redistricting process and to learn more about how I can be of assistance to every yeshiva and organization in my new district. Thanks to Council Member Greenfield for introducing me to the leadership of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath and to the administration for hosting such an informative tour and discussion,” said Council Member Eugene.
