With the realization that an American-led attack against targets in Syria is all but certain, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and his family have fled the country, finding safe haven in Iran.
According to the Lebanese a-Nahar website, the Syrian leader and his family were flown in his presidential plane on Tuesday night, the eve of 22 Elul 5773, Yisrael Hayom is reporting.
The report states that Assad took his most senior advisors with him.
Iranian state TV on Wednesday morning 22 Elul issued a statement of denial, calling the report “ridiculous”.
