Shuvu Banim Suspects Remain Behind Bars

prisonThe Jerusalem Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 21 Elul 5773 extended the remand of Shuvu Banim Yeshiva suspects Nachman Berland and his son Nosson until Tuesday, 29 Elul. They are the main suspects in an investigation alleging tax fraud and other while collar crimes. Two other suspects were also held over until Tuesday. The court will reevaluate their incarceration ahead of Rosh Hashanah.

The suspects were arrested about two months ago after investigators and tax agents deiced their clandestine investigation yielded sufficient evidence.

Members of the community report that Rabbi Eliezer Berland, Nachman’s father, is monitoring events from Morocco, where he is living. At present, it appears highly unlikely that these members of the Berland family will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah in Uman as is their minhag.
