Livni: Confirms the Obvious (In Her Eyes)

Justice Minister Tzipi Livni in an address to the Tel Aviv Bar Association on Monday night, the eve of 21 Elul 5773 spoke of the need of an independent judicial system.

“In a dispute between the rabbi and the court, we must side with court. A judge is responsible to interpret the law. The rabbi must be subordinate to that law” she explained.

In essence, her words are not earth shattering and she has released similar statements in the past, emphasizing her commitment to the nation’s secular law to the exclusion of the Torah HaKadosha.

  1. No really gives a hoot if she thinks halacha and rabbis are subordinate to Israeli law and judges. Torah Law remains, it always has, above Israeli secular law.

  2. What she says is totally logical, if you accept the fact that Israel is a secular state like Europe and America.

We chareidim are in denial, if we think we will be allowed to carry on with our way of life without vigorously fighting for our rights at every turn.

All the concessions we get to allow us some breathing room are subject to cancellation at a moment’s notice.—that is the lesson of Yair Lapid.

Were it not for the constant crises with athe Arabs, the secularists would have completed the job long ago.

  3. The Shulchan Aruch Choshen Mishpat 26:1 says: One who goes to a non-Jewish or secular court is considered a rasha, a מחרף ומגדף and causes a great chillul Hashem (Rashi Mishpatim).

  4. “……..fighting for our rights at every turn…..”
You HAVE rights, please stop revising the facts. Give an example of ONE right that you don’t have.
You also have religious MKs and in cabinet level positions.
The orthodox didn’t want to emigrate to EY from Europe, so the opposition is the majority. So yes, you are in denial, as you so aptly commented.

  5. “…..One who goes to a non-Jewish or secular court is considered a rasha, a מחרף ומגדף and causes a great chillul Hashem …..”

    Yes, even in Williamsburgh-Monroe .
