A poll shows that 50% of Israeli households bake one weekly, but that number in chareidi homes is significantly higher, 73%. The Mutagim Institute conducted the poll for the Shimrit yeast company.
The poll included a cross section of the Israeli population, showing in 36% of the homes that bake the recipes come from friends and family and 33% of the households stick with proven recipes. 25% of the baking homes rely on cook books too.
In the general population 48% of the baking households use yeast but in chareidi homes, that number jumps to 80%. 71% use yeast to make cakes that have a sweet filling while 46% also bake breads and 19% make pizza.
