Former Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who is number two on the Likud/ Beitenu list, comes out attacking the Yisrael Hayom daily newspaper that backs Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
In his statements released on Monday, 13 Elul 5773, Lieberman stated “this is a newspaper that only represents interests and lacks any ideology.”
In his remarks during an interview with Radio Yerushalayim, Lieberman commented on Moshe Leon’s candidacy in the Jerusalem mayoral race, calling the newspaper Pravda. Lieberman was angered by an article published in the newspaper announcing that Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky would be running for another term in office, an article which he explains works to the benefit of Mayor Nir Barkat.
He accuses Yisrael Hayom of working to promote the interests of Barkat, adding “I see this as a spin, smells like a spin and looks like a spin.”
“I take into account that this was published in Pravda Yisrael Hayom and therefore it is clear that it is a spin from the Barkat camp.”
He stated the Lupoliansky report is baseless and working to advance Barkat’s reelection.
When asked if he believes the newspaper works to promote Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s agenda, he responded “It is a personal newspaper not a newspaper with ideology. There is no doubt it presents and agenda without any objective reporting or political approach, simply self serving to its interests, nothing more.”
