Lupoliansky Seeking a Second Term in Jerusalem City Hall

lupFormer Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky plans to enter the Jerusalem mayoral race, Yehuda Schlesinger reports in Yisrael Hayom. The report states the former mayor last week made his position clear to his close friends.

However, despite the report which gives an air of certainty to Lupoliansky’s decision, persons close to him state his final decision will be announced after Rosh Hashanah.

At present, the mayoral race includes Moshe Leon, who is supported by Yisrael Beitenu, Likud and Shas, along with the incumbent Mayor Nir Barkat, who is backed by Bayit Yehudi and the dati leumi tzibur.

  1. So Leon and Lupoliansky will split the Chareidi vote, letting Barkat win reelection. Bravo.

Sounds a bit similar to the last mayoral election.

  2. Everyone should be aware that he is currently on trial for public corruption and money laundering.

Sounds like a prerequisite for a politician, just sad that this one has the title of “Rabbi”

  3. T”M, i’m not so sure about that. If Lupo goes in, i think that the frum will abandon Leon and vote for him.

  4. #4 – It could also be that the secular vote will split between Leon and Birkat and the frum vote for Lupoliansky might decide. The Rabbonim will take all this into consideration before deciding whether to let him run.
