Since Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar Shlita endorsed Dayan Boaron in the Chief Rabbinate race there has been much speculation surrounding a reported break in relations between Rav Amar and Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita.
In his column in the party’s Yom L’Yom newspaper, Editor-in-Chief Yitzchak Kakone levels an attack against Rav Amar, albeit not mentioning him by name, clearly showing a shift in policy vis-à-vis the former chief rabbi, who was seen as the successor to Maran Rav Ovadia prior to the elections.
The column speaks about Elul and time for introspection along with citing Maran R’ Ovadia’s concern for Sephardi Jewry and their unwavering belief that he is their undisputed spiritual leader, to be followed in all his decisions.
Rav Amar received the Shas cold shoulder after he dared to support Dayan Boaron instead of R’ Ovadia’s candidate, his son Rav Yitzchak, who emerged the successor in the race for the post of Rishon L’Tzion. Rav Yitzchak was sworn into office this week to begin his ten year term.

Of course he is persona non grata – he dared buck the leadership of the party. The fact that he did this after being stabbed in the back by Deri does not, in the eyes of Shas, excuse him.
Rav Amar is a Talmid Chacham in his own right, and the fact that he disagreed with Rav Ovadia does not lessen this fact. It does, though, lessen his potential future within Shas (more’s the pity).

“to be followed in all his decisions” — Kudos to the robots of the SHAS party. Didn’t know that SHAS Sefardim was going the way of Rebbe as in Chassidish circles.
Let’s be friends make amends now is the time to say I’m sorry. It’s time to let bygones be bygones and move on with life. He’s still a holy jew even on the chance that he made a mistake, lets not blow things out of proportion.
Wow. Politics uber alles.
What ever happened to not using Torah as an atarah to profit by? (Pirkei Avos) Imagine having to ask michila for not supporting someone’s candidate. We are losing it.
Seriously, does anybody believe that the attacks on Harav Amar Shlita are leshem Shomayim?
