El Al flight LY004 from New York to Tel Aviv last night had to make an unscheduled landing in Europe in Athens after a bathroom smoke detector went off. After touching down the passengers were sent to a local hotel as the airline worked to make arrangements for another plane as technicians began checking the plane.

The flight was a Boeing 747-400 with 324 passengers and crew on board.
