While the Bayit Yehudi faction of the coalition is applauding the announced construction of 1,200 housing units in Yehuda, Shomron and Yerushalayim, senior coalition partner Yesh Atid sees things from a different perspective. Yesh Atid leader Finance Minister Yair Lapid responded “The announced planned construction of 1,200 housing units at this time is a big mistake.”
Lapid feels the response to the critical nationwide housing shortage must be addressed but the housing should not be in the areas mentioned during this time period as the PA (Palestinian Authority) and Israel are resuming negotiations. He feels the announcement “is not productive” at this time.
His words were echoed, albeit with an added measure of severity by opposition leader MK (Labor) Shelly Yacimovich and Meretz leader MK Zahava Gal-On.

On this issue Lapid is right. Netanyahu and Israel are coming off as the party that is sabotaging peace. The timing is horrible. Netanyahu is making a mockery of world opinion.
