The levaya for the Sifrei Torah destroyed in the Nordau Street shul fire in Netanya last week took place on Monday afternoon, 29 Menachem Av 5773. Police have a suspect in custody who allegedly set the blaze intentionally. The shul located on Nordau Street was targeted by a lone arsonist who was taken into police custody.

Damage in the blaze was extensive, including the total or partial destruction of 10 Sifrei Torah R”L.

Police acted quickly, realizing soon after the blaze that it appeared to be an arson attack. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a young male buying gasoline in a station near the shul.It appears he is also suspected of involvement in another arson attack against a shul on Zalman Schneur Street. Police add the suspect allegedly stole the tzedaka money before setting the shul ablaze.
