After three recipients of donor organs in Ichilov Hospital died during liver transplant surgery the hospital has been ordered to halt the procedure pending the outcome of an inquiry.

In recent weeks, liver recipients ages 16, 56 and an elderly recipient all died during transplant surgery. According to the Channel 2 News report, one death is attributed to anesthesia and a second to arterial tearing during the advancement of a thoracic catheter. The deaths all occurred within a month.

The hospital notified the national transplant authority of its decision to halt the procedure pending an internal investigation towards evaluating the surgeries, the fatalities, the procedure and the physicians.
